Central Coast Council will start taking in cats at its Charmhaven and Erina pounds again.
The local government has listened to big concerns about strays and unwanted pets being dumped in bushland and adding extra strain to the RSPCA's shelter.
Environment and Planning Director Scott Cox says it was never a policy but a staff choice, based around a misinterpretation of the laws.
"Basically it was an error in judgement at the staff level," Mr Cox admitted to last night's meeting in Gosford.
