A controversial Bondi Beach mural has been defaced just hours after the local council voted for the political painting to stay.
Archibald-nominated artist, Luke Cornish is the artist behind the seawall mural which is meant to be a creative statement on Australia's immigration detention system.
The art shows 24-armed Australian Border Force officers standing in line with the words "Not... Welcome To Bondi" written above.
It is an artwork which has sparked a fiery debate since its completion in July.
Some residents and councillors have called for it to be removed immediately, while a Change.org petition demanded it is painted over.
After standing his ground by strongly defending his political mural with an Instagram post. Cornish explained that the officers were meant to represent "the 24 suicides in detention facilities since 2010".
