Crime Stoppers is set to close its doors in Queensland due to funding issues.

Despite Crime Stoppers tip-offs being vital to cases such as Tialeigh Palmer and Daniel Morcombe, the independent charity organisation is $250,000 short of a funding target necessary for operations to continue.

Starting next week, it is understood that police will be manning the phones.

One of the real benefits of Crime Stoppers was that anonymity was a big factor, with some reportedly concerned that the number of calls may drop if the separation from the police is lost.
