Discarded Ashes Spark Ballandean Bushfire

Ripped through 320 hectares

13 August 2018

It's believed that discarded ashes from a campfire was the cause of the Ballandean bushfire on the weekend.

The blaze ripped through 320 hectares, with 14 fire crews battling the 3km fire over the weekend and into Monday.

The fast moving inferno instigated the voluntary relocation of two households and saw a cottage and vintage truck destroyed.

Landowners are being urged to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities with campfires and vegetation fires.
