Drones that can spot sharks will be sent out above the water at Avoca Beach from this summer as part of a trial of new technology to keep our beaches safer this summer!
Surf Life Saving Central Coast's CEO Chris Parker told Gawndy & Ash Pollard this morning that the drones won't just be able to spot sharks - they can also identify fast-forming rips, have an in-built speaker to warn swimmers of dangers from above, and even a flotation device to help swimmers in trouble!
"Within 3-5 years I suspect that there'll be one on every beach," Chris predicts.
