A former NEXUS employee is facing an $1800 fine after finding historical coins but failing to declare the find.
The man stumbled upon 5,600 coins during initial earth works that were carried out on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing project in October 2016.
The man has been fined for failing to comply with the Queensland Heritage Act - for not notifying the Department of Environment and Science immediately of his treasure haul.
The coins date back to as far as the 19th century varying from copper to silver from the period 1882-1940.
