Lake Eppalock will not be closed to the public despite a positive test for blue green algae.
A warning has been issued however by Goulburn Murray Water recommending animals and people avoid the water.
Farmers should find an alternative water supply for livestock in recently irrigated paddocks.
Water from the lake should not be ingested either with a risk of gastroenteritis.
