Passengers at Australia's international airports are being delayed by a computer systems outage.

The Australian Border Force says it's working with the Department of Home Affairs to resolve the IT systems outage, which is affecting the processing of inbound and outbound passengers.

"Additional ABF staff have been deployed to process passengers and to minimise delays," an Australian Border Force spokesman said.

Passengers are being encouraged to arrive at airports early to allow additional time for processing.

According to reports, The SmartGate system is down in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane’s international airports, with potential to cause an impact on other airports around the country.
