A giant fireball spotted in the sky last night across the Hunter appears to have been a meteor.
Hundreds of people flooded Facebook saying they saw the bright light shoot across the night's sky at around 9pm.
Some say it looked like fireworks, others thought it was a shooting star.
At the same time, many people reported hearing a loud swooshing sound or rumbling.

Geoscience Australia went on Twitter to say "Reports of a meteor over the Hunter. Explains reported tremors and thunder as no reported seismic activity."
