More than 2 million Australians are now registered on women-first dating app, Bumble.

The app hit the two million user mark today just over two years after it launched in December 2016.

Bumble markets itself as a different kind of dating app – particularly because only women are allowed to send the first message

So what have Bumble found in their time?

In research commissioned in 2017:

  • 56% of Australian women believe they have missed out on romantic opportunities because they failed to make the first move.
  • • 69% of single Australian women aged between 18 and 39 years old want to be more assertive and confident when it comes to dating, with only 29% of them endorsing the traditional view that making the first move is the role of the man.
  • • Men are three times more likely than women to make the first move when they see someone they like, with 73% of relationships being initiated by men and just 27% by women.
  • • Most single women (85%) see the benefit in using dating apps – the key benefits they named were easily screening out those they didn’t fancy (63%) and being able to do it in their own time (62%).

Since its launch, Bumble has amassed over 48 million users globally. As one of the fastest growing social connection apps, this has resulted in over 650 million women-led first moves and over 1 billion messages sent worldwide.
