New Hope For Medical School

CSU 'Optimistic'

Vice Chancellor of Charles Sturt University, Professor Andrew Vann, says the prospects for its proposed Murray Darling Medical School have been boosted.

It comes after Professor Vann met with Assistant Minister for Rural Health, David Gillespie, and the Member for Calare Andrew Gee, after which he said he’s optimistic that common sense will prevail, and that the MDMS will be delivered.

The meeting also came alongside Dr. Gillespie’s current review into Australia’s 20 year old policy regime concerning increasing the number of Australian medical graduates working in rural and regional Australia.

Professor Vann says he believes the Minister can see that the old policies are not working and that the MDMS proposal offers a practical way forward to address the oversupply of doctors in the city, and shortage in rural and regional areas.
