Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the move was a measure to stop the front of the virus outbreak from spreading to neighbouring parts. The Inner West and Camden areas are also advised to be on alert.

As predicted, the Hunter lockdown has been extended for another week following confirmation 24 new cases have popped up in the Hunter New England health area. Of the new cases, 14 are from the Lake Macquarie area, 7 are from Newcastle, 2 are in Maitland and 1 is in Port Stephens. Worryingly, 6 of those were infectious whilst in the community. That brings the total active cases in the Hunter to 77.
Twelve of the new cases are from the Masonic Retirement village in Edgeworth: 11 residents and one staff member. Residents have been receiving care at the John Hunter hospital.
Canberra is the latest state to cop a one-week lockdown, the first the state has had in 13 months. It will begin from 5 pm Thursday following news of a new covid case.
