SA Health is investigating several Salmonella cases have been linked to a popular bakery chain.
Angkor Bakery stores in the northern suburbs are believed to be linked to the breakout, with 11 confirmed cases of Salmonella reported to SA Health - all of which involved the person eating Vietnamese rolls from these locations.
"Of the confirmed cases, nine people have been hospitalised," Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Nicola Spurrier said.
"SA Health authorised officers, in conjunction with local council Environmental Health Officers, have inspected stores at Springbank Plaza (Burton), Hollywood Plaza (Salisbury Downs) and Blakes Crossing (Blakeview).
"Food and environmental samples have been collected from all stores, and results will assist in identifying the source of the contamination.
"Early investigations indicate the cases could be linked to raw egg butter, pate or BBQ pork ingredients.
"The businesses complied with a council request on Tuesday to cease using these ingredients and, from today, the businesses have agreed to cease selling all Vietnamese rolls until the source has been identified.
"Cleaning and sanitising procedures have also been assessed and improved, and will continue to be monitored."
Symptoms of Salmonella include:
- vomiting
- fever
- diarrhoea
- headaches
- stomach cramps
- loss of appetite
These symptoms may present themselves between six to 72 hours after exposure.
