The Brumbies CEO is calling on the Canberra community to stick by their team, with the club’s future up in the air.

One Australian and two South African teams could be cut from the competition, as SANZAAR consider a Super Rugby overhaul.

It’s not yet known which Australian team will get the chop, or when.

“We are sitting like all of the rugby public of Australia, waiting to see what the outcome is. We certainly hope the Brumbies aren’t on the chopping block,” Brumbies CEO Michael Thomson said.

“I imagine the ARU is looking at all alternatives and we’re not a huge population base in comparison to QLD and NSW so we’re one of the three that’s being considered.”

In terms of a timeline, it’s not yet known when an announcement will be made. Could be tomorrow, next week, or later in the year.

“What we need to do is sit tight, focus on playing good football, connecting with our community and a decision will be announced at some stage in hopefully the near future,” Thomson said.

In the meantime, the club is focused on Saturday’s home game against the Highlanders.

“We’re really focusing on where we’re at at the moment in terms of the big game against the Highlanders on Saturday, two weeks after that we have a big game against the Reds. What we’d love to see is just more and more support for the Brumbies and that really strengthens our position – your support is invaluable to us.” Thomson said.

“As we saw against the Waratahs the players are really focused on getting the job done and they’re showing a lot of character out on the field so you can be sure on Saturday night they’ll turn up, they’ll be ready to play and they’ll want to do well.”

Our guys take on the Highlanders at GIO Stadium this Saturday, with kick off at 7:45pm.
