Someone has poisoned a 150 year old Gum Tree at Highbury.
The Tea Tree Gully Council's investigating after holes were drilled into the base of the Red Gum on Lower North East Road, allowing poison to be put in.
It's been left with just 2% of its green foliage.
The Council's put up a security fence with fears it won't be able to survive.
The maximum penalty for damaging trees is $120,000 and around ten cases are reported each year.
If anyone has information they're urged to contact the Council on 8397 7444
