The Queensland Government has made 38 recommendations following an independent review of 2020’s Fraser Island bushfire.

The state government suggested using automated registration readers and mobile phone check-ins to track campers as a method of deterring illegal campfires.

2020’s fire started from an illicit campfire discovered by rangers. Four people were charged with lighting an unlawful fire while three people were issued with fines.

Camping areas on Fraser Island were set to be reviewed immediately, with more signs added to the areas that will warn campers not to light fires outside of designated camping grounds.
