Locals have been quick to jump on board the cash rewards of recycling, since the scheme kicked off on November 1 this year.

Among the kilos of recyclables have been some sneaky surprises that the staff were not expecting.

The Keane Street depo have reported that keen creepy crawlies are coming through with the recycled goods from the public.

Frogs, cockroaches, spiders and even snakes have entered the Currajong business, but staff say they are not phased by it too much now.

Staff at Reef Recycling say they have had to release a few green tree frogs back into the wild.
