The South Gippsland Shire Council has closed the Venus Bay jetty and will demolish it for being unsafe.
It follows an analysis on the structure, which revealed a cross sectional area of the piles could no longer hold a load.
Infrastructure Planning Minister Tony Peterson confirmed to the Great Southern Star they will seek state funding to rebuild the jetty as soon as possible.
