Wagga by-election date can now be set

Writs are expected to be issued

5 August 2018

A date can now be set for a by-election in the seat of Wagga, after former Member Daryl Maguire officially handed in his resignation on Friday.

It came three weeks after the ICAC hearing in which Mr Maguire admitted to attempting to broker property deals in Sydney on behalf of Chinese investors.

Since then Mr Maguire has faced pressure from the Premier, from the Opposition and from within his own electorate to step down.

He initially refused to resign, then Labor threatened to move a motion to have him expelled from Parliament.
